• Notes

  Adriaan farmed on the farm Paapkuilsfontein in the Cathcart district. He was a good speaker, sang well and full of fun ( "grapmaker") and compassion and had many friends. According to his children (see "Odendaal Gedenkalbum") he was religious, gentle (saggeaard) and a family man and always had some sweets in his waist-coat pocket. He could however keep discipline. One of his weaknesses was that he could not say "no". This led to his financial ruin when he had to pay up for the debts of his financially incapable son-in-law on whose behalf he had stood surety.
